Beacon Life is a half day course looking at money management. Working in teams, the students take charge of the finances of a character and work through their daily financial challenges. From planning a weekly shopping budget to finding the best credit option, the students are introduced to skills that they can use when they leave school and move into employment or further education. It helps participants to become informed and confident consumers of financial products and learn how to deal with the unexpected.
At the close of this event the team will feedback about their character, the challenges they faced and what they have done to keep them solvent.

This fits into the curriculum in terms of life skills lessons and maths - it is a useful exercise for all students. However, it is produced for years 11 to 13 to give them a clear insight into the challenges they will face when they have to take over the running of their own money.
